About the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI)
The voice of German aerospace
The German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI) is the primary industry representative for the aerospace sector in Germany. As the voice of German aerospace, BDLI engages in dialogue with political institutions, authorities, trade associations and governments at home and abroad. Representing more than 250 companies, it offers a wide array of member services, and is the trademark owner of the air show ILA Berlin.
A driver of jobs
As one of the leading high-tech sectors, the German aerospace industry is a boon to the entire economy: the industry makes one out of every eight jobs possible in Germany and employs around 100,000 highly skilled employees. Many other industries directly benefit from aerospace, such as manufacturing, aviation, IT, communications, tourism and the export industries.
At the forefront of innovation
The aerospace sector is not just the engine of the German economy, but also a major force for progress in science and technology. Its innovations range from the most successful aircraft in aviation history, the Airbus A320 family, to the Eurofighter and the European Ariane launcher. As a key player in our highly connected digital world, the significance of the aerospace industry is expected to grow further in the coming years.
Defence and security for our society
The industry uses its expertise to offer solutions for some of the most urgent challenges of the day. Combining nearly all of the strategically important 21st century technologies, German aerospace technology offers better security, helps protect the environment, defends against terrorism and safeguards Europe’s borders.
As a key partner of the German military and allied forces, the military aerospace industry equips forces with the most modern and capable systems. The industry thus helps promote German political interests in terms of foreign relations, alliances, security, economics and technology. The importance of strategic and tactical intelligence as well as military transport capabilities is certain to increase. Our industry makes a vital contribution in this area.
