Spaceflight
Spaceflight means future. Space applications and technologies are indispensable for solving  environmental, transport and security challenges now and in the future.

Satellites allow communication with the most remote corners of our planet and precise orientation as provided by Galileo for instance. Space-based Earth observation enables the collection of climate and environmental data. The results gained from research under space conditions, for instance, on the International Space Station, ISS, are essential for the fields of materials sciences, robotics, sensor technology, biology, pharmaceutics and medicine. Military use of space technology allows the best possible reconnaissance and guidance capability as required in today’s military scenarios.

To sum it up, spaceflight is vital to our society. Therefore, Germany and Europe are in need of an autonomous access to space.

The German space industry has internationally recognized competencies and technologies. With the decisions made during the 2008 meeting of the Council of Ministers and the budget estimates for the coming years, the Federal Government set the course for the future. The German space industry appreciates this development. The BDLI is currently preparing suggestions for a German space strategy.
