Systems for aircraft navigation, air and ground surveillance
As the world‘s leading supplier of air traffic control technology and air traffic management systems, Thales offers a full range of product and service solutions in the fields of communication, navigation, air traffic control and airport automation. The company provides its customers with everything they need from a single source – from development, design and production to installation, initial operation and maintenance.

Thales is the market leader in the business of developing, producing and assembling satellite-based navigation systems and air and ground monitoring and surveillance systems, such as A-SMGCS, ADS-B, multilateration and G-BAS.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is currently in the process of implementing a nationwide ADS-B system that will ultimately feature approx. 1 600 Thales ADS-B ground stations when fully deployed. Thales ADS-B systems are also in operation in Australia, Indonesia and Europe.

In 2009, Thales added a new product to its portfolio, known as the SDU (Surface Detection Unit), capable of automatically detecting and identifying dangerous objects on taxiways and runways. This new system works day and night – whatever the weather conditions. The SDU consists of a 77 GHz radar and a highresolution CCD camera. This product supplements our A-SMGCS system (Eurocat S), providing airport clients and their ground control teams with a complete monitoring system, encompassing the apron and runway.
