Products and Services:
Founded in 1991, the company Jena-Optronik GmbH develops and manufactures optoelectronic instruments and systems, guidance, navigation and control (GNC) sensors and software for the aerospace and defence industries. The company’s developments include its autonomous star sensors as well as a range of camera systems for Earth observation and meteorology offering a range of resolutions and catering to multiple applications.

The Jenoptik subsidiary Jena-Optronik (Defence & Civil Systems division) focuses on applications with an operational and commercial background:
  • Guidance, navigation and control (GNC) sensors for satellites and space probes
  • Instruments for Earth observation and space exploration
  • Aerial cameras
  • Observation platforms (intelligence gathering and reconnaissance)

  • As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of GNC sensors for space applications, the company produces sensors for highly demanding environments. The key requirements for these applications are robustness, accuracy, reliability and – in particular – service life. Thanks to the development of suitable hardware and software components, the company’s sensors comfortably fulfil these stringent requirements. As the number one GNC sensor systems supplier, Jena-Optronik develops rendezvous and docking sensors, star sensors and sun sensors that are employed within the scope of international aerospace and satellite programmes.

Jena-Optronik is a pioneering force in the fields of multi-spectral space research and 3D imaging systems. It is currently focusing on the development of optoelectronic technologies for Earth observation.

Jena-Optronik is also actively engaged in the fields of intelligence gathering and reconnaissance. One of the key advantages of the equipment the company produces is the fact that it allows a wealth of data to be combined. Potential dangers can be observed and identified by overlaying the results of multiple optical, infrared and laser measurement processes. To provide these capabilities, Jena-Optronik has developed systems, modules and software programmes to further process and exploit the data.
