Products and Services:
Ticona, the engineering polymers business of Celanese AG, Kronberg, produces and distributes a wide range of engineering polymers and in 2008 generated sales revenue of around one billion US dollars. The company operates production compounding plants and R&D facilities at locations in Germany, the USA and Brazil. With its production plants in Europe, North America and the Far East, Ticona can deliver a uniform high standard of quality throughout the world to its globally active customers. In addition, as one of the world’s leading suppliers of engineering polymers, Ticona provides engineering materials support to development teams in the aviation industry.

The development of innovative applications in the aviation industry is no longer conceivable without the use of engineering polymers. Composite materials based on fibre-reinforced thermoplastics have been used successfully in aircraft construction for many years. Composites based on Fortron® PPS are used wherever reinforcing materials are needed which reduce weight and costs without compromising strength and stability. Fibre-reinforced composites can reduce the weight of components by up to 50 percent compared with metal or light metal while still meeting all the design requirements for aircraft construction. The highperformance composite material is used externally on wing edges as well as on ribs and struts to reinforce the fuselage and internally for seat-integrated lumbar support.

Research and Technology Development Priorities:
The Ticona experts in applications development and processing technology and the company’s laboratory and production technicians support customers in all phases of product development, e.g. with feasibility studies, computer-aided engineering (structure and mould filling analyses), material recommendations, development of new materials, production of test plates (ISO, ASTM), design recommendations, tool recommendations, expert reports (for troubleshooting, process analyses), parts testing, customer workshops and training.
