| Products and Services: Sagem Navigation GmbH is a subsidiary of Sagem Défense Sécurité, a member of the SAFRAN Group in France. Sagem Navigation develops and produces sensors and devices for inertial navigation, measurement and control systems. With more than 3 000 industrially produced fibre-optic gyroscopes per year, the company plays a leading role worldwide in this field. Sagem Navigation is certified as a manufacturing and maintenance operation in accordance with EASA Part 21 and EASA Part 145. The company develops all key components, such as integrated optical circuits and optohybrids, in house. Sagem Navigation also assists the parent company in the German-speaking region with its sales, customer support and logistics activities. Smart SAS. Smart SAS is a digital stability augmentation system (SAS) for aircraft. It consists of a fibre-optic rotation sensor with integrated SAS function and a serial smart actuator. The system is part of the basic equipment for several helicopters produced by Eurocopter Germany and Eurocopter France, including the types EC135, EC145 and EC155. FMU. The fibre-optic inertial measurement unit (FMU) is a robust and cost-efficient inertial measurement unit for all applications in which acceleration and rotational speed have to be measured in three spatial directions. The use of integrated optical circuits (IOC), optohybrids and ASICs results in a competitive design for demanding inertial measurement tasks. RGU. The rate gyro unit (RGU) is a sensor specially developed for use in fly-by-wire flight control systems. It is used in the Airbus A340-600, A380 and A400M. |
| Research and Technology Development Priorities: Sagem Navigation develops application-specific sensors, devices and subsystems on the basis of fibreoptic gyroscope technology. In the optical sector the focus is on miniaturisation, assembly and interconnection technology, as well as the development of production processes. In device development the application of standards RTCA/ DO254 Hardware Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification and RTCA/DO-178B Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification is decisive. Sagem Navigation has many years of experience in the development of sensors for safety-critical flight control applications. |
